Pack comfortable layered clothing, as Shillong and Cherrapunji experience cool mornings and evenings, while Guwahati is warmer. Sturdy walking shoes with excellent grip are absolutely essential for exploring wet caves and descending the steps to the living root bridges. Carry an umbrella or light raincoat, sun protection, and personal medications (including motion sickness tablets for winding hill roads). The local currency is the Indian Rupee (INR); while digital payments work in Shillong, carrying cash is highly recommended for Dawki and rural villages.
