Ascend the legendary Khardung La—one of the world’s highest motorable passes—to enter the stunning Nubra Valley, home to silver sand dunes and double-humped Bactrian camels. Itinerary

This 6-day overland journey traverses the most iconic landscapes of the Ladakh region. Arriving at the high-altitude airport in Leh, your first day is strictly dedicated to acclimatization, ensuring your body adjusts to the thin mountain air. Your exploration begins on day two, traveling along the Sham Valley route to witness gravity-defying hills and ancient monasteries. The adventure elevates as you conquer Khardung La to reach the vast, desert-like Nubra Valley. Navigating the rugged riverbeds of the Shyok River, you transition to the magnificent Pangong Lake to spend a night under the starry Himalayan sky. The journey concludes with a scenic drive back over the Chang La pass to Leh before your departure.

Urban High Altitude
Arrive at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport (IXL) in Leh (11,500 ft), where an Outlander representative warmly welcomes you. Transfer to your premium hotel. Since you are flying directly into a high-altitude zone, the entire day is strictly reserved for complete rest and acclimatization to prevent Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). In the late evening, take a gentle, slow-paced walk to the beautiful Shanti Stupa to witness a breathtaking sunset over the Leh valley and the distant Stok Kangri peak.

After a hearty breakfast, embark on a scenic drive along the Leh-Kargil Highway (Sham Valley route). Visit the revered Pathar Sahib Gurudwara, maintained by the Indian Army. Experience the unique optical illusion of Magnetic Hill, where vehicles appear to defy gravity and roll uphill. Continue to Sangam, the dramatic confluence point where the muddy waters of the Zanskar River meet the turquoise flow of the Indus River. Conclude your day with a visit to the Hall of Fame, a moving museum dedicated to the brave soldiers of the Indian Army.

Wake up early for a thrilling drive to the stunning Nubra Valley. The journey takes you over the legendary Khardung La pass (17,982 ft). Take a quick photo at the summit before descending into the valley. Arrive in Hunder and check into your luxury camp. In the late afternoon, head to the cold desert sand dunes of Hunder to enjoy a ride on the unique double-humped Bactrian camels (optional) against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains.

After breakfast, visit the majestic Diskit Monastery, perched on a hill, and marvel at the towering 32-meter-tall statue of Maitreya Buddha overlooking the valley. Embark on a rugged, highly scenic drive along the Shyok River route directly to Pangong Lake, saving you a return trip to Leh. Arrive at the world-famous Pangong Tso (14,270 ft), a massive endorheic lake spanning across India and Tibet, known for its pristine waters that shift colors from blue to green. Check into your luxury camp and spend the evening mesmerized by the sunset over the lake. Later we drive back to Leh in the late afternoon via Khardungla Top. On arrival at Leh you will check in to your Hotel. In the afternoon you can rest and relax. In the evening you can stroll around the market place for some last minute souvenir shopping.

Breakfast Sightseeing Stay Transfers
Wake up to a freezing but magnificent sunrise over Pangong Lake, capturing the perfect mirror reflection of the barren mountains on the tranquil water. After a warm breakfast, check out and begin your return journey to Leh. This route takes you over the formidable Chang La pass (17,586 ft), the third-highest motorable road in the world. En route, if time and energy permit, visit the historic Thiksey Monastery or the Druk White Lotus School (Rancho's School from the movie '3 Idiots'). Arrive in Leh by the evening for your final night.
