Overview

See the holiest Mountain on Earth

The journey to Mt. Kailash is an important spiritual journey for millions of Hindus & Buddhists, in addition to Jains and also to the Bonpo. It is divinely said that one circuit of the sacred Mt. Kailash (54 km/32-mile) is enough to wipe out all the sins of a lifetime. However, eliminating all the sins of your lifetime is only part of the task; the major purification requires that you also do 108 revolutions. Important Notes Description:

  • **High Altitude Sickness (AMS):** This journey reaches extreme altitudes up to 5,600 meters. Taking Diamox (Acetazolamide) preventatively is highly recommended (consult your physician). If severe AMS symptoms occur, immediate descent is mandatory, and our guides hold the final authority on your continuation of the trek.
  • **Infrastructure:** Tibet is a remote, harsh region. While we provide the best available guesthouses, accommodations in places like Dirapuk and Zuthulpuk are extremely basic mud-houses with multi-sharing dormitories and common, rudimentary dry-pit toilets.
  • **Visa & Permits:** The Tibet Group Visa and Alien Travel Permits are subject to strict Chinese government regulations and can occasionally be delayed or denied without explanation.
  • **Weather:** Weather at Mount Kailash is highly unpredictable. Sudden snowstorms, high winds, and freezing temperatures can occur even in summer; flexibility and patience are critical.

Essential trip

information!

Pack a highly specialized, extreme-weather wardrobe. A high-quality, sub-zero sleeping bag and a heavy-duty, windproof down jacket are absolute necessities. Dress in easily removable layers, bringing thermal inner-wear, fleece jackets, waterproof trekking pants, and heavy woolen socks. Sturdy, waterproof, and well broken-in trekking boots with excellent ankle support are mandatory for the rocky, uneven Parikrama trails. Bring a comprehensive personal medical kit (including Diamox, painkillers, and blister pads), a high-quality UV-protection sunglass, high-SPF sunscreen, and a reusable thermos flask for hot water. The currency in Tibet is the Chinese Yuan (CNY/RMB), and Nepalese Rupees (NPR) in Kathmandu. It is strictly advised to carry sufficient CNY in cash for personal expenses, hiring ponies, and tipping in Tibet, as ATMs are non-existent outside major cities and digital payments require local Chinese banking apps.
