Designed specifically for young minds and school groups, Outlander’s 4-day Student Group Tour in Siem Reap is an immersive educational journey into the heart of the ancient Khmer Empire. This itinerary moves beyond standard sightseeing, transforming Cambodia into an interactive outdoor classroom. Students will unravel centuries of history at the Angkor National Museum before witnessing the architectural majesty of Angkor Wat, the enigmatic smiling stone faces of the Bayon Temple, and the immense silk-cotton tree roots reclaiming the ruins of Ta Prohm. The learning continues with a geographical and ecological exploration of Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake, Tonle Sap, where students will witness how local communities have uniquely adapted to extreme seasonal water fluctuations by building floating villages. Itinerary

This 4-day educational expedition is carefully structured to maximize learning and cultural engagement. Arriving at Siem Reap, students begin with a foundational visit to the Angkor National Museum to understand the Khmer Empire's timeline. Day two is entirely dedicated to the Angkor Archaeological Park, offering a hands-on exploration of ancient engineering, Hindu-Buddhist mythology, and the reclaiming power of jungle ecology at Ta Prohm. Day three shifts focus to sociology and geography with a boat trip through the floating villages of Tonle Sap, followed by a cultural evening at the Phare Circus. The tour concludes with an inspiring and educational visit to the APOPO Visitor Center to learn about Cambodia's demining efforts before departure.

Arrive at Siem Reap International Airport (SAI), where your dedicated Outlander educational guide will welcome the student group. Transfer to your hotel for check-in and a safety briefing. In the afternoon, head to the Angkor National Museum. This world-class interactive facility provides students with a crucial historical foundation of the Khmer Kingdom's golden era, its kings, and its transition from Hinduism to Buddhism, perfectly preparing them for the next day's temple exploration. Enjoy a welcome group dinner featuring mild, authentic Cambodian cuisine.
Architecture, mythology, and jungle ecology

Wake up early to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the iconic five towers of Angkor Wat. After exploring its vast, bas-relief-covered galleries, continue to the ancient walled city of Angkor Thom. Enter through the impressive South Gate and marvel at the Bayon Temple, renowned for its hundreds of gigantic, serene stone faces looking out in every direction. After a midday rest, explore Ta Prohm, the famous "Jungle Temple". Here, students will learn about botany and ecology as they witness massive strangler fig and silk-cotton tree roots physically wrapping around the ancient stone ruins. Continue tour to the crowning jewel of Khmer architecture, ANGKOR WAT TEMPLE is the national symbol and the highlight of any visit to Cambodia. The largest, best preserved, and most religiously significant of the Angkor temples, Angkor impresses visitors both by its sheer scale and beautifully proportioned layout, as well as the delicate artistry of its carvings. To approach the temple, first cross the vast moat, continuing along a broad causeway lined with Naga balustrades. As you enter the main building, ascend through a series of galleries and courtyard before reaching the central sanctuary, which offers beautiful views back over the causeway and across the surrounding countryside. Floating villages and the Phare Circus

After breakfast, drive to the edges of Tonle Sap Lake, the largest permanent freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. Board a private boat to explore the floating villages. Students will observe firsthand how entire communities have adapted to the lake's massive seasonal expansion and contraction by building homes, schools, and clinics on stilts and floating platforms. Return to Siem Reap for lunch. In the evening, the group will attend a performance by Phare, the Cambodian Circus—an inspiring social enterprise showcasing disadvantaged youth performing incredible acrobatics, music, and contemporary storytelling.
History, humanitarian efforts, and farewell
Educational Transfer
After breakfast and check-out, the group will visit the highly educational APOPO Visitor Center. Here, students will learn about the tragic legacy of landmines in Cambodia and the innovative, life-saving humanitarian work being done using trained African Giant Pouched Rats (HeroRATs) to safely detect and clear explosives. After this moving and inspiring experience, the coach will transfer the group back to Siem Reap International Airport for their onward journey home, carrying invaluable educational insights and cultural memories.

Essential trip

information!

Pack a highly functional and modest wardrobe suitable for a tropical, humid climate and temple regulations: lightweight, breathable cotton clothing is essential, but ensure you bring T-shirts (no tank tops) and long trousers or knee-length shorts for temple days. Sturdy, comfortable walking shoes or sports sandals with good grip are crucial for navigating the uneven, ancient stone steps of the archaeological park. Bring essential sun protection (sunglasses, wide-brimmed hats, high-SPF sunscreen) and strong mosquito repellent for the Tonle Sap lake excursion and evening walks. The official currency is the Cambodian Riel, but the US Dollar is widely accepted everywhere; carry small denominations of USD ($1, $5, $10) in crisp, untorn condition for buying snacks and souvenirs.
