Essential trip
information!
Pack a highly versatile wardrobe suitable for a tropical, humid climate: lightweight, breathable cotton or linen clothing is essential for daytime exploration in Saigon and the Mekong Delta. Bring a light rain jacket or travel umbrella, as sudden, brief tropical downpours are common. Sturdy, comfortable walking shoes or sports sandals with good grip are crucial for the uneven jungle terrain at Cu Chi and walking the city streets. Bring essential sun protection (sunglasses, wide-brimmed hats, high-SPF sunscreen) and strong mosquito repellent for the river excursions. The local currency is the Vietnamese Dong (VND); while major hotels and malls accept credit cards, carrying VND cash is absolutely necessary for street food, local markets, and tipping the sampan rowers.
